OTPF

The OTPF is the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework. It is important to learn about because it breaks down the steps a therapist should follow into easy to read charts and graphs. I used the OTPF very frequently when doing my occupational profile because each category was broken down and described in detail. This made producing an occupational profile a much easier process. The OTPF groups all of the different types of occupations into broad categories and then breaks them down even further into subcategories such as client factors and performance skills. The OTPF does not only help you with occupational profiles but it also helps a therapist when identifying a type of PICO question or how to form a PICO question for Evidence Based Practice. These are examples of ways that I have encountered using the OTPF in just a few short weeks.

fUTure OT

At this time in my life my current role is a MOT1 student at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center. The occupation that is primarily attached to that role is studying. Studying is something that I do for a majority of my day in a variety of locations. An activity that takes place for the occupation of studying is drawing and typing. I draw out many concepts and color code my notes to make visualization much easier for myself. Another activity that takes place during my occupation of studying is typing. I use typing to either search the internet for clarity or I usually type up my notes to make them more organized. The task that is used for drawing and typing includes fine motor skills. I use my fine motor skills to correctly hold my markers and pens to draw out concepts I am studying. Fine motor skills are also abundantly used while typing on my laptop.

Shopping is an occupation that many of us have to do very frequently. Shopping could include buying groceries or buying clothing for yourself or your family members. Shopping has evolved over the years in many ways. Several years ago going to the store was not nearly as easy as it is today. In that day there were not cars or transportation to get you  to the stores as quickly as you needed to get there so that was a major change. Also, the world has evolved so much over the years that there are so many more things to purchase in the stores today that we tend to catch ourselves going back to the store more frequently. Today we can get our groceries, clothing, household items, and even medicines refilled just by walking into one store. Shopping is an occupation that everyone does to some extent and it is becoming an occupation that is used much
