When I first started OT school in January of 2019 we were asked to draw a picture following a rubric that portrayed our perspective of a leader. Now in July of 2020 we are asked to follow the rubric again see how our perspective has changed after learning more about being a leader throughout OT school. When looking at the previous drawing from January and comparing it to the current picture, my perspective of leadership has vastly stayed the same. One of the main differences that I can see in the portraits is that in January I believed that organization was more important than creativity when serving in a leadership role. However, in my new portrait the hair is a mixture of curly and straight meaning that creativity is also important to consider when being an effective leader. Everyone learns differently and sometimes a leader may need to be creative in order to reach out to certain clients to be able to meet them where they are.

My client was Dennis who had a stroke on the right side of his brain. The best fit

Assistive devices are carefully fitted to each individual differently. Every individual has their own unique body shape and type and will need their assistive device to fit them properly. A few of the main factors to consider when finding the proper fit for your client is their stability and balance, and their strength. As an occupational therapist fitting a client to a device knowing their level of stability and balance is a big factor because based on their stability level determines the correct device to provide. If a client has  poor stability they may need a rollator or a walker instead of a cane. Strength is important to consider because if your client fatigues easily they may need a device that rolls so they are not over exerting themselves by picking up the walker each time they take a step.  To fit a client appropriately for a cane the therapist should adjust the height of the cane so the handle is in line with the wrist crease, ulnar styloid, or greater trochanter. OTPF

The OTPF is the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework. It is important to learn about because it breaks down the steps a therapist should follow into easy to read charts and graphs. I used the OTPF very frequently when doing my occupational profile because each category was broken down and described in detail. This made producing an occupational profile a much easier process. The OTPF groups all of the different types of occupations into broad categories and then breaks them down even further into subcategories such as client factors and performance skills. The OTPF does not only help you with occupational profiles but it also helps a therapist when identifying a type of PICO question or how to form a PICO question for Evidence Based Practice. These are examples of ways that I have encountered using the OTPF in just a few short weeks.
